About Kyle Smith

I am a professional wilderness guide and photographer with over a decade of experience working in some of the most remote and ecologically rich landscapes in Canada. My work is deeply rooted in the Pacific Northwest, with a strong focus on British Columbia’s coast and the Great Bear Rainforest.

I have spent years guiding in wild places, and this has significantly shaped the way I see and photograph the natural world. Navigating remote terrain, reading weather and wildlife behaviour, and moving respectfully through sensitive ecosystems are central to both my guiding and photographic practice. This background allows me to work safely and ethically in environments where patience, awareness, and experience matter.

My photography centres on wildlife, wild landscapes, and the quieter moments that define these places. From coastal rainforests and alpine environments to salmon-bearing rivers and old-growth forests, my goal is to create images that feel honest, grounded, and connected to place. I prioritize natural light, minimal disturbance, and a deep respect for the animals and landscapes I photograph.

The Great Bear Rainforest holds particular significance in my work. It is a place of extraordinary biodiversity and cultural importance, and one I approach with humility and care. Time spent in this region has reinforced my commitment to responsible storytelling and to creating images that reflect the true character of the land rather than spectacle alone.

Through both guiding and photography, my aim is to foster a stronger connection between people and wild places. Whether documenting wildlife, leading trips in remote environments, or creating fine-art imagery, I bring a professional, experienced, and conservation-minded approach to everything I do.
